Over, Not Out!

My time as a mentee has come to an end, but the journey is far from over.

My Learning Journey

During my time with Annette, learning WordPress, I’ve gained invaluable insights that will guide me moving forward. Among the key lessons that have left a lasting impact:

  • Content before design is the secret to a successful website. (As someone with a background in graphic design, this was a mindset shift that required some retraining!)
  • Write it down. What you’ve done, what you’ve learned, what you’ll need to reference.
  • What is your message? Clarity is essential in everything you communicate.
  • Ensure your communication is accessible to everyone.

I’ve developed a deep passion for the technical side of WordPress, especially in creating websites that are both inclusive and accessible.

Reflection

Annette’s straightforward and methodical approach perfectly matches my own working style, allowing me to absorb and apply a wealth of knowledge throughout our mentorship.

We both began our journeys on the internet at a time when it was very different from today — an era that many are striving to reconnect with. Annette has been instrumental in guiding me toward communicating in a way that feels authentic and true to who I am while helping others to do the same.

My confidence has grown, and as I look ahead to the coming year, I know the key to success will be staying consistent in dedicating time to my projects and ongoing development.

What Next?

Some of the projects I worked on during my time as a mentee with Annette have been completed, but I’m excited to continue with new ventures, such as my collaboration with Glastonbury Arts Commissions, and the ongoing updates I’m making to various websites, including my own, Tea Ladies on Tour, Jo Mabey, and Burnside Croft.

As this chapter draws to a close, it coincides with a time of significant global shifts — politically and socially. The knowledge and insights I’ve gained from Annette, particularly in WordPress, have been a valuable gift that I now hold firmly in my hands. Not only will I take this knowledge forward, but I am committed to passing it on to others.

Annette is, to me, a digital healer. She offers each of us a box of light, a unique gift full of potential. What we choose to do with it is in our hands, but we also carry the responsibility to nurture it and share it with others.
